"Borax
- 20 Mule Team Safe Cleaning Power"
For those of you too young to have ever heard of
Borax, first a little history lesson.
Borax has been found on the shelves of local grocery stores since the late 1800’s when it was first mined in Death Valley, California and gets its name from Borax Lake in that same valley.
The reason it's referred to as “20 Mule Team®” Borax is because during the years 1883-88 teams of 18 mules and 2 draft horses hauled wagon loads of Borax from Death Valley to the train junction at Mojave to be shipped to consumers.
What is Borax? It’s a white, odorless powder the key element of which is boron, an essential micro-nutrient. Borates are both safe and versatile which makes them a very good choice for safe cleaning of all sorts in your household.
Safely used for centuries, boric acid and Borax are used in the production of a wide range of products, such as pharmaceuticals, glass, fiberglass, cleaning products, lubricants, paints, eye treatments, cotton and cellulose and many other products.
Borax is widely used as a mild antiseptic, cleanser, water softener, corrosion inhibitor for antifreeze, flux for silver soldering and sometimes as a preservative.
Naturally occurring, Borax is found in large deposits in Borax Lake, California, Oregon and the Tibet region of China.
Since the late 1800s households all over have used the 20 Mule Team® power of Borax as a multipurpose cleaning agent for everything from boosting the brightening and freshening power of laundry detergent to scrubbing kitchen floors and cleaning toilet bowls.
Borax will easily remove tough carpet spills and stains as well as clean your cookware, too.
Borax makes sinks, toilets, tiles and bathtubs shine like new while reducing odors at the same time and is
the only substance known to actually kill mold growing in tile grout right down to the roots. (Bleach and other toxic cleaning products only kill the top of the mold allowing the roots to continue to grow.)
Unlike most cleaning products on the market today, Borax is a safe cleaning alternative for the non-toxic household for many reasons. It’s not combustible, explosive or flammable and if fact is itself a flame retardant.
Borax is poorly absorbed through the skin and although it may have a drying effect, it doesn’t cause irritation. As well, Borax is non-irritating to the eyes and is not a known carcinogen. As well, accidental ingestion of small amounts of Borax (1 tsp) will cause no harm to healthy adults and it is a non-hazardous waste when spilled or disposed of.
So forget that fancy, sweet smelling, highly toxic array of cleaners and bleaches that doesn’t just take up way too much room underneath your sink, but are actually harmful to humans and pets as well as the environment and replace them all with one safe, versatile, hard-working box of 20 Mule Team® Borax.
It may not have fancy wrapping, and you won’t see it advertised in a glitzy TV ad, but what’s inside is definitely
superior in every way.
