| TOPIC: "Deodorant and Your Skin" |
|
Is your deodorant doing more than keeping your underarms
dry?
Did you know that the regular use of aluminum-containing deodorants (most
deodorants on the shelf today) can cause skin rashes and may contribute to
the clogging of underarm lymphatics, which can then lead to breast problems
such as cystic disease.
What happens when you have too much aluminum in your system?
Acute aluminum poisoning has been associated with constipation, colicky pain,
anorexia, nausea and gastrointestinal irritation, skin problems, and lack of
energy. Slower and longer-term increases in body aluminum may create muscle
twitching, numbness, paralysis, and fatty degeneration of the liver and kidney.
Aluminum toxicity has been implicated in brain aging disorders. Alzheimer's
disease and Parkinson's Disease have both become more prevalent as the
incidence of aluminum toxicity has increased. Areas with high amounts of
aluminum in the drinking water are showing an increase in the incidence of
Alzheimer's disease (alum and aluminum sulfate are used to treat water in
many cities).
You can prevent aluminum buildup in your body by simply avoiding many of
the day-to-day sources of aluminum. For instance, eliminating foods that
contain aluminum (processed cheese, white flour, common table salt), filtering
your water and avoiding the use of aluminum cookware are some easy steps
that will help reduce your aluminum intake.
Another easy step to take is to stop blocking skin and sweat pores with
aluminum antiperspirants. Instead, choose a natural rock salt crystal or an
organic deodorant source.
Although healthy, non-toxic deodorants may not keep you as "dry" as the
other products that plug your pores with aluminum, the good news is that they
will not contribute to aluminum toxicity either.
Education is the key to a healthier lifestyle and taking one small step by
removing the aluminum from under your arms may equate to a very large
difference in your health somewhere down the road.
Some Safe Deodorant Alternatives
There are now many healthy alternatives, but you need to know which ones to
choose. You use deodorant every day and therefore it is important to use one
that is not increasing your risk of cancer or causing a wide variety of skin
irritations.
The following is a list of some healthy deodorant alternatives.

Where To Find Safe Deodorant
Alternatives
First look in the "organic" section of your local grocery store. Many stores are
now beginning to carry an ever-increasing section of healthy alternatives.
The more you buy these products, the more their presence in your local stores
will increase. Next, check your local health food store.
Generally these safer products will be a bit more expensive here than in your
local grocery store, but well worth the price if they make your life less toxic.
