"Is That Milk You're Drinking
Really So Good For You?"

Have you ever wondered why humans are so conditioned to drink milk every day of their lives while all other species that share the same space as Mother Earth only drink milk until they are weaned? Even calves don’t drink cow’s milk after about 6-8 months.

Fact: Humans are the only species on earth that drink the milk of another animal.

The purpose of any infant drinking milk is to pass on immunity in the form of protective antibodies from the lactating mother to the baby during the first few days of infancy and to fatten it up for the rigors of adulthood.

For instance, cow’s milk turns a 200 pound calf into a 2,000 pound cow in about 6-8 months.

Could the adult over consumption of milk and other dairy products in the average North American diet have much to do with the current obesity crisis we face?

How long have you been hearing, “drink your milk…it’s good for you?” Could it be that with respect to having all that milk shoved down our throats, we’ve all been falling prey to the same erroneous conditioning perpetrated upon the innocent public by, for example, drug corporations that would also have you believe that taking TUMS® or other antacids is helpful with indigestion, heartburn or GERD symptoms?

Could it have something to do with the bottom line of the National Dairy Council as it tells us we must drink milk and eat dairy products or our bones will become brittle and we’ll all get osteoporosis?

The dairy industry has a powerful hold on the nutrition industry in this country, so much so that it pays doctors, nutritionists, dietitians and researchers to push dairy products, not based on maintaining public health, but rather based on maintaining profit margins.

Dr. Walter Willett, a veteran nutrition researcher at the Harvard School of Public Health says that, "calcium consumption has become like a religious crusade" overshadowing true preventative measures such as physical exercise.

And what’s really in all that milk and all those high fat concentrated cheeses and other dairy products you’ve been told you must drink and eat to stay healthy?

How about a little bovine growth hormone, fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides and up to 52 different kinds of antibiotics in that milk cocktail, or that slab of cheese you just put on your cracker, because this is what you’ll find in pasteurized and homogenized commercial milk products.

Another shocker, especially for post-menopausal women is that drinking your milk may be subjecting you to a higher risk of developing a serious form of ovarian cancer because within milk is a milk sugar called galactose. In previous studies carried out by researchers at the National Institute of Environmental Medicine in Stockholm, Sweden, the galactose sugar component of milk was found to been associated with ovarian cancer.

Using data collected from the Swedish Mammography Cohort to review medical records as well as dietary records of more than 61,000 women between the ages of 38 and 76, all of whom were diagnosed as cancer free at the outset of the study, over a 13 year period more than 260 of the study participants were diagnosed with epithelial ovarian cancer and almost half of those cases were considered serious.

Following is a list of other diseases which Dr. Akilah El, PH.D., N.D. considers to be caused by drinking milk, including ADD or ADHD, asthma, arthritis, autoimmune disease, breast cancer, childhood anemia, colon cancer, Crohn’s disease, diarrhea and constipation, diabetes, early breast growth, early sexual maturation, leukemia, lung cancer, osteoporosis, prostate cancer, sinus problems.

Dr. El states that, “The Biggest problem with cow’s milk is that the protein in the cow’s milk damages the human immune system. Amino acids, the units that make up proteins, are building blocks for all living cells. When amino acids in our food are properly broken down by the digestive system into protein, it does no harm to the immune system. Protein from milk, however, is absorbed into the blood fully undigested, provoking an immune response. Repeated exposure to these proteins disrupts normal immune functions and may eventually lead to diseases.

I’ll leave you with this quote from a Washington, DC based pediatrician by the name of Russell Bunai, who, when asked what single change in the American diet would produce the greatest health benefit?...responded, “Eliminating dairy products out of the diet.”

So what should you do about all this? Get involved, don’t believe everything you hear on TV and read in those big splashy advertising campaigns. Do your own research so that you won’t be led down the garden path by the bottom line in some large corporation’s year end statement.

Personally,...I believe milk is for baby cows.
