"What's In That Peanut Butter?"

So many people are allergic to nuts these days...especially peanuts. Have you ever wondered why?

First, many of you might not be aware that the peanut butter in the sandwiches you’ve been feeding your kids contains a particularly strong cancer-causing agent produced by the fungus aspergillus flavus.

This is a highly carcinogenic mold that grows on peanuts while in storage.

Secondly, peanuts contain high amounts of polyunsaturated fatty acids, iron and copper and when the peanuts are crushed to make peanut butter, the fatty acids come into close contact with these metals, which in turn causes a fast acting chemical reaction turning the fatty acids into potent free radicals.

The free radicals that are created when the fats come into contact with the copper and iron in the peanuts acts as an accelerating catalyst, increasing the production of free radicals thousands to millions of times over.

This chemical reaction results in the formation of peroxidated fatty acids which are known to be some of the most dangerous free radicals because of their harmful effect on cellular membranes.

Everyone now knows that free radical damage is part and parcel of the cause for just about every chronic disease or illness known to humans, from heart disease to cancer, arthritis to multiple sclerosis and most all aspects of the aging process.

Thirdly, most vegetable derived oils fall under the category of polyunsaturated fatty acids, which are very unstable, meaning they become rancid very easily when exposed to oxygen, heat and light.

Fourth, in the production of peanut butter the peanuts are usually roasted and lots of salt is added, destroying some of the fatty acids and turning them into hydrogenated or damaging fats that the human body does not easily metabolize.

Is it any wonder clinical studies have shown that peanuts, peanut butter or peanut oil causes such a high degree of allergic reaction in so many?

Knowing what we do, the reasons are many for avoiding peanut laden foods and perhaps it’s time to seriously consider whether it might not be safer to send your kids to school without the peanut butter.
